  • High-purity GMS: Effective lubrication solution for hard/soft PVC

  • 📝 Product Overview

Glycerol monostearate (GMS) is a highly efficient, multifunctional PVC lubricant that primarily acts as an internal lubricant while also providing some external lubrication.

It is specifically designed to optimize PVC processing performance, significantly reducing melt viscosity, minimizing friction heat generation, and effectively improving the surface finish and demolding properties of the finished product. Its non-ionic nature and excellent compatibility with PVC make it particularly suitable for transparent products and high-filler formulations.

GMS is free of heavy metals, and under compliant usage conditions, it helps formulations meet environmental regulations (such as RoHS/REACH), making it an ideal alternative to traditional stearate salts (such as calcium stearate) or for use in conjunction with them.

  • 🔬Key Specifications

Monolaurin content: ≥ 90% (high purity type), for industrial grade, it is usually ≥ 40-50%.

    Glycerol content: ≤ 1-2%

    Free acid: ≤ 2-3%

    Ash content: ≤ 0.1 - 0.5%

    Acid value: ≤ 2 - 5 mg KOH/g

    Iodine value: ≤ 3 g I₂/100g

    Saponification value: 150 - 165 mg KOH/g

  • 🚀Applications and Functions

    1️⃣Internal Lubrication

→Reduces friction between PVC melt molecular chains.

→Improves melt flowability and promotes uniform plasticization.

→Reduces melt viscosity, lowering processing energy consumption and equipment load.

→Helps prevent material overheating and degradation in processing equipment (especially extruder screws and barrels).

    2️⃣External Lubrication Function

→Forms a lubricating layer between the melt and the metal surfaces of processing equipment (such as die heads, rollers, and screws).

→Prevents melt adhesion to equipment, ensuring smooth and high-gloss product surfaces.

    →Facilitates smooth demolding of materials.

    3️⃣Other important functions

→Improves degassing: Helps trapped gases during processing to escape more easily.

→Reduces migration risk: Has good compatibility with PVC, with a lower tendency to migrate to the product surface, helping to maintain long-term performance and appearance (transparency) of the product.

→Enhances thermal stability: Assists the primary stabilizer in reducing thermal degradation during processing.

→Aids transparency: In transparent PVC formulations, GMS has a smaller impact on transparency compared to certain metal soap-based lubricants.

    4️⃣Typical application areas

🏗️Rigid PVC (RPVC): Pipes, fittings, profiles (doors and windows), sheets, films, injection-molded products (e.g., bottle caps). (More focused on internal lubrication)

🧩Soft PVC (SPVC): Electrical cable jackets, films, sheets, artificial leather, hoses, toys, seals. (Used in conjunction with plasticizers to balance internal and external lubrication)

🔍Transparent PVC products: Packaging materials, cards, decorative sheets, etc., requiring high transparency.

🍱Food-grade PVC products: Food packaging films, bottle cap gaskets, drinking water pipes, etc.

    5️⃣Usage Reference

Typically added at a rate of 0.2–1.5 phr (parts per hundred resin) in PVC formulations.

Specific usage should be optimized based on resin type, processing method (extrusion, injection molding, calendering, etc.), other additives (such as stabilizers, plasticizers), and the desired lubrication balance.

  • 📦 Packaging and Storage

    📮 Packaging:

The most common packaging format is 25 kg per bag.

Kraft paper bags or composite paper bags lined with polyethylene (PE) film are the most commonly used packaging materials, ensuring moisture resistance.

    🌡️Storage:

Environment: Store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated warehouse.

Temperature: Avoid high temperatures. The ideal storage temperature is below 30°C. Keep away from heat sources, flames, and direct sunlight.

Shelf Life: The shelf life is typically 24 months.
